Local resident, Behrooz, went above and beyond ripping up his lawn and planting over 200 native plants on his 550m2 property, in a bid to create a a habitat in suburbia for the local wildlife. The City of Kwinana is piloting the Street by Street project to improve safety, sustainability, and community connections in ten selected streets. This initiative is designed to strengthen neighbourhoods, enhance public spaces, and encourage better recycling habits. Participants will benefit from a one-off mowing and hedging service to improve street aesthetics, two native plants to support local biodiversity, and opportunities to build stronger connections with neighbours through WhatsApp and Facebook groups. The project also includes free community safety resources, direct engagement with the council, and recycling bin audits. This initiative aims to make waste and recycling easier to understand while fostering a cleaner and safer community. Residents will also receive guidance on reporting antisocial behaviour and accessing local services.
